I have an SLR, but its obviously a ball ache to lug up routes, what cheap compact cameras does everyone use.

I just need something for snapping quick action shots, basically a climbing camera. what does everyone use.

The Olympus tough series are quite good for the price and are also shockproof and waterproof(10 m or so), so can even take it for dws!

In reply to lm610: I've had a Nikon Coolpix for a couple years and always have it in my pocket when I go climbing. It takes photos pretty fast and the colours are nice too.

Quite a few companies do budget tough/waterproof cameras for around £100.

Anything by one of the major firms should be better than a poke in the eye.

Have a look on Amazon, and limit your search to compacts up to £100 or £200.
Tben look at those that are marketed as tough/freeze proof/waterproof.

Draw up a short list of those you can afford and like the lok of then have a search for a few reviews.

Lastly, go into a shop and handle the things. If you like one, ask the shop to price match the best reputable web site you've identified. If they're not willing to, tough luck on them - buy it online.

i assume you meen digital ? new ? used ?
if new buy from somewhere you can take it back to if you have problems
if its going to get abuse take out the care plan chances are you will
break it , given the environment you will be using it in...

used... well loads of cheap bargains out there find one with a metal
not plastic casing will take a bit more abuse..pay a price that you
dont mind loosing as its used no telling how long it will last
again easyer if you know more about the stuff your buying

things like the fuji and olympus tuff are simply a cheap camera
in a expensive casing so dont expect great results

my pennies worth hope it helps
