I know what's going to happen and I know its going to be brilliantly crap, but I just know I'm goin to watch it.

Love the daily mash's take on it http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/arts-entertainment/pacific-rim-retitled-...

In reply to myth: Going to see it tonight, I think it will be mindless drivel but hugely entertaining, bring it on.
In reply to myth: I thought this was going to be a new German pron movie.

Just come back from seeing it. Went in expecting to see giant robots beat the ever loving shit out of giant aliens. I was not disappointed.
 Skyfall 14 Jul 2013
A wafer thin plot, wooden acting, stilted dialogue, sometimes hard to follow action sequences, no cliché left out.

Having said that, great fun. Now where do I join up?

In reply to myth:

surely this is the brilliantly crap movie of the summer.

I love how you are so quiet on these forums and then some UTTER PAP like Ninja Assassin or Pacific Rim wakes you up

I fell asleep. Right when they encountered the Cat5.

I agree about the wafer thin plot, wooden acting etc etc.

To be honest, it's just Transformers meets Godzilla.

And what is wrong with that?

Eh? There is nothing wrong with it. That's why I said "I love it when you..."

Richard is a mate of mine. "Jog on", as the kids say...

In reply to Blue Straggler:

Which kids?

Back on topic: I haven't seen PR yet, but my main concern is that the monsters don't look "rubber suity" enough, and that there may be a distressing lack of fire breath. We shall see.

HANG ON A SECOND!

Is this just a glossy remake of Destroy All Monsters?

In reply to Blue Straggler:

I think you will find there are distinct plot differences there. In particular, no effing robots

Scientists and a spaceship. Come on. It's Charley Varrick / No Country for Old Men all over again

Watched it this evening.

I quite enjoy the odd switch-off-the-brain film, but I found this one a bit boring - over-long, and kind of lost between schlock sci-fi plot and no-expense-spared special effects.

It might have worked better if it either looked cheaper, or made more sense. Or even if it was just cut to half the length.

It wasn't utterly awful, to be fair.

In reply to myth: Just watched it.

I quite liked it, although my favourite monster had relatively little screen time.

I'm trying to convince my partner that we should keep a pet kaiju in the greenhouse. She disagrees. Something about them not being real and me always being out & never feeding it.
