I've been riding a hire bike with 105 bits. I've noticed the front mech. doesn't seem to feather as well as the Campag bits I have on my own bikes. It rattles a bit in some gear combinations. Is this normal for manual shimano or can it be set-up better? Just curious, but seem like a good reason to stick with Campag.

In reply to JLS: Are you trimming it?

In reply to JLS: Campag has 4 points shimano 3, and yes very rare to have a shimano that does rub at the ends of the gears, but then the argument is you shouldnt put that much angle on

alternative is Sram, wider front mech, less rub, and a lot less fettle

In reply to gear boy:

Cheers, that explains that... Campag is 33% better than Shimano

In reply to gear boy: On my 105 there seems to be 4 points 2 main clicks which go between the chainrings then 2 smaller adjustments that trim the mech (one in each chain ring position).

In reply to Andrew W: yes sorry my description was rubbish, but then i ride SRAM now so rarely ever "trim"

as you say shimano have top and bottom set and a trim off each, whereas Campag has top and bottom set and i think 4 trim points, which are more even across the range, so its more like a ratchet

you could go electronic then it just auto trims for you
