Hi all,

Long time reader, first time poster.
I am undertaking a traverse of the monte rosa in a few weeks. Prior to that, I have one night that I would like to spend in a high mountain hut.

I am looking at options that are relatively easy to get to from Geneva (public transport only) and are ok for a solo hiker (ie - no glaciers).

I have found two options.
1. Champex to d'orny hut; although I see the chair at the bottom is not working which will add another 650m vert to the hike
2. Hike around Verbier and stay in Cabane du Mont Fort.

Are there any pros / cons to the above to options, or, can someone else recommend an alternate itinerary?

It's much nicer to go up from Praz de Fort which makes it into a circular walk. Descend via the Champex route. If you're feeling lazy hitch-hike up to the prise d'eau!

There's a path from the Cabane d'Orny to Trient that avoids the glacier if you want a night at 3170m after Orny.
