Giorgio is doing better, he's out of mechanical ventilation for the first since the accident, and his body temperature is now back to 36° C (out of 25° C when he was rescued). He's still in very serious conditions, but we're all getting moderately optimistic.
Giorgio's formidable resistance clearly has played a big role in his survival, but we all feel the Annecy hospital did an outstanding job here, really at the limit of what modern mountain medicine can do.
Today celebration of the Guides Day in Courmayuer was of course kept to a very low profile, part out of respect for the two fatalities, part out of concern for Giorgio's conditions. The fact that another two (guideless) climbers got killed on Lyskamm Ridge yesterday didn't exactly help the festive mood
