Cammell lairds is a shipyard in Birkenhead, the Ark Royal was built there. The title is a dig at the pretentious adoration of the Buena Vista Social Club by the fairtrade cocaine users of Notting Hill.

Birkenhead is on the Wirral peninsula, the nice(r) side of the Mersey. The four lads who shook the world is a statue in Liverpool to some band from that side of the river

I always liked their Christ – The Album title. It seems commonplace now, but at the time was rather striking. Appalling racket, of course.

I've always liked that.

'New Boots and Panties' by Ian Dury and the Blockheads is an intriguing title.

 Martin W 19 Aug 2013
In reply to nniff: According to Wikipedia: "The title derives from Dury's habit of buying clothes second hand, and refers to the only items he insisted on buying new."

Their second album ( Do It Yourself) was excellent and VERY funky.

I remember that it came in a choice of wallpaper patterns.

In reply to coinneach:

Well off topic but it also has one of my favourite lines EVER

"Home improvement expert Harold Hill of Harold Hill
Of do it yourself dexterity and double glazing skill
Came home to find another gentleman's kippers in the grill
So he sanded off his winkle with a Black & Decker drill"

Brilliant!

John Otway of course,

fave quote; Thanks to this second hit he has now been able to release his Greatest Hits album. Commenting on the fact that the title of this album is now in the plural, Otway said that he was very proud of it, having "finally got it the 's' on the right side of Hit".
