A good thing the cold war is over or we`d be getting waterboarded in Gitmo.

Stirring stuff. My Dad used to sing that in the bath, he had quite a good baritone voice too.

When I saw Emir Kusturica and the No Smoking Orchestra at Celtic Connections last year they came out to this:

It's up there with La Marseillaise and Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau.

Wonderful!I just love the sound of Slavic men singing and talking too, they are so i don't know sing songy but with sounds that are so alien to us.

I just have to post the most stirring, inspiring and beautiful national anthem in the world by a mile. youtube.com/watch?v=U06jlgpMtQs&

Happy Together - with the Leningrad Cowboys

Something magnificent about burly russians belting out english songs entirely phonetically.

In reply to ben b: The Red Army Choir gave an open air concert close to home a couple of years ago, and as it was free we went along to listen. Bizarre mix of songs, Russian folk songs, opera & some 'western' pop music, including a version of Tom Jone's Sex bomb - this might have been filmed on the same tour

In reply to Doug: Sounds like it could be. There's a hint of sadness and a whiff of "we'll do anything for a paycheque since the wall came down" but heck that's quite a voice. I'm not sure why I should have this prejudice by comparison to the band of the Coldstream Guards for instance...

Yep, that is moving stuff.

In reply to The Lemming: How about asking them to do the song for the next Bond film...?
