I've attended the 'Far from Help' courses several times over the past few years, organised by Wilderness Medical Training. The syllabus has now been reduced so that they are teaching fewer advanced techniques. Can anyone recommend a good quality advanced first aid / medical course suitable for an expedition setting?

In reply to cdb7452: Depends what you mean by "advanced" I guess. Perhaps they have reduced the syllabus to ensure that basic interventions are taught and practiced well? I know you are asking for specific recommendations but I would consider getting into a dialogue with organisations which offer 'Expedition First Aid' and allow them to do a needs based assessment.

The medical training and equipment needs for one expedition will be very different to another. For what it's worth a quick scan of the WMT FFH syllabus and it looks pretty logical to me. I should add I have no experience of WMT at all. Might also be worth looking at Expedition Medicine http://www.expeditionmedicine.co.uk
