I'm after some new music to listen to when I do an ultra in a couple of weeks.

I want loud and fast - punky/metal stuff would be good - any recommendations?

Other things already on Ipod are
Queens of Stone Age
Prodigy
Grateful Dead
Beady Eye
Janes Addiction

Animals as leaders- metal, but more prog, melodic with amazing guitar playing ( have a look at his custom 8 string)
Eagles of Death Metal- not sure how to describe this but a more fun, less serious version of QOTSA.
Them Crooked Vultures- Super group of QOTSA, Foo Fighters and Led Zep
Heavens Basement- energetic Metal/Grunge
Also +1 on Beastie Boys, Velvet Revolver and Grinderman

personally id stick with the mike patton years as he brings a weirder edge, so Real Thing, Angel Dust, King for a day, Album of the year. AD is the most 'together', tho RT will appeal if youre already into janes addiction.

mr bungle (pattons main group) is less commercial and rawer. its odd stuff.

i fully get the grateful dead thing. especially their early stuff.

somewhere between the two is primus. makes a solid trinity along with faith no more and janes addiction, but maybe not running music.

the stooges are great too. but i will always vote them, regardless of the genre requested.

Right thanks all - this has been great

Final decsion is as follows (no beady eye included)
Queens of Stone Age - Songs for the deaf
Prodigy - Jilted Generation
G Dead - American Beauty
Faith No More - Angel Dust
Velvet Revolver - not sure which album yet
Grinderman - now this excites me , never heard of them but see Nick Cave is lead singer and I used to love the Birthday Party
Janes Addiction - not sure what the album is called but has the weird naked women on the cover.

No doubt I will suffer miserably in the ultra but at least I will enjoy myself doing so.

Thanks all

I joined a GD 'tribute' band a couple of months ago. First gig on Oct 4th but it's been hard won becuase the publicans get the wrong idea from the skulls and skeletons.

good luck with that.

i saw them live in London 20 odd years ago. One of the most memorable concerts i ever went to

only concert i have to where one of the crew was going through the audience with dollar bills soaked in acid and ripping bits off for willing participants!
