What have I done to my camera?

Whilst taking a load of photos at Dumby yesterday I seem to have done something to my camera.

When I have the pop-up flash activated and shooting on anything apart from Auto, there is a delay of a second or so between pressing the button and the shutter being released (and flash firing.) There is no delay when shooting on Auto and likewise no delay when the flash isn't being used.

I'd been using an off-camera flash and wireless trigger earlier in the day and I think I've broken that too - for some reason, I can't disconnect the trigger from the flash. I'm wondering if I might have slightly forced the trigger onto the flash at the start of the day and now a pin or something has broken, preventing disconnection. Could this break/fault somehow mess up the camera's internal electronics causing the shutter delay issue? All in all, not a good day for me camera-wise.

Any suggestions out there please for what might be the problem? And if it comes to it, can anyone recommend a decent camera repair lab in the Glasgow area?

Doh! Memo to self: Google first - post second.

Somehow I'd activated red-eye reduction, thereby delaying shutter and flash release.

Now I just need to try and separate the wireless trigger from the flash.

In reply to Fraser: Hey Fraser, technology has the terrible habit of doing exactly what you tell it to do, even when you've forgotten what it was. I once took a series of photos with flash at iso 1600 in manual mode, and it was only after taking a series of two or three groups that I realised. I was very shamefaced getting the groups back together again in order for me to take their pictures properly. As I get older, I find new ways to duff up. I'm sure there's been threads about this before from other oafs like me as well.

Anyway, I didn't reply to tell you what an eejit I was. Go to Johnstones Camera Repair in Glasgow and they will be able to sort any problem you've got. They're reasonable and if they think they can sort your problem, they almost certainly will. I've taken my cameras and lenses and flashes for repair and service there.

Nasty bit of work that red-eye reduction function!
Glad your back on track though

In reply to the abmmc:

Nice story, I'm sure there are worse out there Thanks for the heads-up on Johnstones. For some reason I had it in my head they were only Canon specialists as I've used them in the past for a repair job. Now using Nikon though so had mentally put a line through their name. Will give them a visit tomorrow as they're not far from the office. Got a nasty feeling I've completely trashed either the flash or the trigger - hopefully only the latter.

In reply to SeanB:

Not sure how I even managed to switch on the damned function in the first place - I never use it, or even need to use it! If my yoda-mentor doesn't use it, neither do I! ;P
