Most Significant Sends

What are the most significant sends you can recall in your climbing career? It doesn't have to be the hardest grade you have ever climbed, it could be the first f6B or F7a you ticked or something you worked for considerable time. Even (dare I say it) something you sent indoors.

For me It would be Morrell's Wall as it was the first problem I ever got on and completed outdoors, took me about an hour but it was a great introduction to real rock.

The reason of making this post is that I have recently ticked my first f7B (ouside the gym ofc) and I felt like that was a massive step in my climbing. That would be a close second.

Full circuit of The Arches traverse, Lady Bay Bridge, Nottingham, roughly V4 5c, took me over a year of occasional but increasing effort. The week after I did it they took loads of the holds off then they ruined a lot of the best stonework by painting it.

I wouldn't work a problem on real rock as its seems a bit unethical in terms of wear and tear and very expensive on petrol.

Done the Terrace Wall traverses? I was a happy man when I completed the middle tier.

I once sent a jacket to another UKCer, and I once sent my wife back to the car for the ropes. Can't think I've ever sent anything else whilst climbing.

For me personally, it has always been when i send my rockshoes off to be resoled.

The difference afterwards is incredible.

"Send" as a climbing term has been used since the early 90s, possibly longer... hardly yoof speak, more like old school knowledge!
Obviously only used by people able to climb harder than VS.
In reply to JIMBO:

True, but for well over the first half of that period it was only used ironically in this country, at least in my experience. The present yoof seem to think it's actually a real word.

In reply to JIMBO: So what exactly does it mean as I'm no wiser?
 Puppythedog 18 Oct 2013
In reply to Sean Kelly: is it an abbreviation of Ascend?
In reply to JIMBO:

Indeed. And 3, a little bit.

Still, you never heard it used unselfconsciously in this country until recently, did you?

I remember laughing in somebody's face when they asked me if I had any beta.

Now that was a big ask.

'sending' my first E2 without falling off was nice, but not as nice as climbing The File which was a pure pleasure (and I'd wanted it since seeing the cover of Eastern Grit)

That rather contrasts with my climbing of The File which was pure swearing.

Oh well, that proves it.

Every time you use 'send' like that, Jesus kills a kitten.
Do you also say 'bon effort'? Two kittens.

Whereas Lady Bay Bridge is the one you sleep under?

I've heard it said that LBB isn't as good as TW, but what do I know, never even pulled on LBB. Scared of monsters that live underneath.

WhitS END Direct.

I connected that (via an E2, 6b traverse) with Howard Send.
