Hi folks,

Does anyone ever use snow shoes out in the Scottish hills?

I bought some several years ago to do some off piste boarding...

Now in to climbing and looking to get out in to the hills this winter.

Keep or flog?

Cheers

In reply to mcstanton:

If you* don't ski well enough then they can be useful.

I have used them in Norway, and occasionally in Scotland. I find they do the job and make deep soft snow dead easy, and can make life a lot more comfortable on flat to moderately steep ground.

*I don't.

Thanks. My off piste skiing is pretty good. Looking to maybe go ski touring. Does anyone bother with them for winter climbing days?

Guessing not, as its just more gear to carry...

In reply to mcstanton: Ive used some in the pyrenees for snow trekking, which is great fun, but they are heavy to carry if you are doing another activity too. I cant really comment about using them in scotland, Id say its worth trying to flog them, just to see what the response is and what you are likely to get for them.

The trick with walk- ins in deep snow is to hang back enough so somebody else goes first and breaks the trail for you.

In reply to mcstanton: I use them when I go out in the snowey hills with non skiers. Or days where I think I might walk a long way before getting to snow, and it's not terribly exciting skiing terrain.
