Mechanically minded people:

Have limited power in any gear, wont go above 20 and revs like mad.

Handbrake up, first gear off the pedal slowly and it doesn't stall.

Need a new clutch?

In reply to SteveoS: Sounds like it. Does it feel like you're slipping the clutch continuously?

In reply to SteveoS:

Yep, Feels like there's minimal contact, just enough to keep it going. Didn't really pay attention whilst doing 20 down a duel carriageway though!

In reply to SteveoS:

Sounds like a worn out clutch. Unless you have a trusted garage get a few quotes, it's not a very big job and the parts are usually reasonable.

Thanks guys.

In reply to SteveoS:

Put it in a high gear at slow speed with the clutch engaged (pedal up) and try to accelerate. If it slips your clutch is worn.

I had similar when i put petrol in a diesel engine van. Doubt you've been that daft, though!
(i'd check on the web watchdog etc beforegoing to a chain / specialist, there have been some horrir stories recently...partly to sell newspapers & get publicity, but still...)

In reply to jkarran: It can be a big job! with most newer cars using dual mass flywheels, it can run into the thousands... Most manufacturers say you must replace the flywheel when you do a clutch on one of these dual mass setups, and the parts alone can quickly add up, let alone the labour to do so.
