I found some of the statistics in this article quite surprising:

e.g. I knew that US workers' holidays were rubbish but I didn't realise that there is no legal requirement for an employer to give any paid leave at all, one of the few countries in the world that doesn't.

Mississippi only ratified women's right to vote in 1984.
