Got a pair of Scarpa Phantom guides.
Have found them a little cold at altitude on occasion.
Short of buying a new boot , has anyone got a suggestion for a suitable gaiter that may add a little warmth ??

In reply to dancingbern: Try lorpen insulated socks or boot heaters before sticking a gaiter on them. I realise that boot heaters aren't great for more than a day though. Also try a layer or two of foil tape on the sole od the boot to stop some of the cold conducted from the crampons, I have done the same thing in my ski boots.

In reply to dancingbern: you may also find a vapour barrier sock helps particularly if it's multi day, these stop the boots insulation getting wet from the inside and so your feeet stay wet and warm.

In reply to Sandy Simpson: Thanks for the tip.
Will investigate.

In reply to alasdair19: Thanks Alasdair but moisture is not an issue. Just the cold over the course of a day. Love the boots and dont wish to change

Glue 5mm closed cell foam all over the outer. An old trick for plastic boots. Contact glue seems to work fine for my synthetic boots (Mammuts and lighter Salomons)

In reply to dancingbern: What sock combination are you using? I found my guides to be a little cold at times even in the summer. I was using liners and thick socks but found that just using some thick bridgedale summits was actually warmer than with the liner.

In reply to dancingbern:

RBH designs high rise vapour barrier socks. Its an all in one sock, a little different from normal VBLs. Keeps the insulation in the boot dry but also keeps your feet incredibly warm. I used them on denali this year with plastics-only really needed the overboots aswell above 14,000 camp. Really recommend these socks

Hope that helps

In reply to dancingbern: Bummer, I find mine warm enough to wear thin socks with. Have you thought about Viagra to improve your circulation

Cheers

Toby

I think an improved sock system may be the way forward.....
