Saw this film last night and, despite being there somewhat reluctantly and not expecting to enjoy it, I thought it was excellent. Tom Hanks was quite exceptional throughout, particularly for the last half hour or so.

Of course the people who were actually there have a slightly different take on their brave captain.

In reply to Fraser: I thought it was a bit harsh locking the lad up for 33 years. Very well filmed though, yes.

I overcame my aversion to anything featuring Tom Hanks and saw it last night. Brilliant filmmaking. I was glad they humanised the pirates and gave them a little bit of backstory and context.

Now I want to see A Hijacking and, especially, this: http://stolenseas.com/about
