Hello,

I'm flying from Australia to Turkey and the original plan was to climb some hard sport routes in Antalya. However, I'm thinking that since Turkey has some mountains, and Australia has very few, I should take advantage of this and get some winter mountain skills under my belt.
I'll be there from late November to mid December.

Anyone have any ideas on where to get started or any reasons why this is a terrible idea? I'm much more of a sport climber than anything else, although I have a basic knowledge of trad gear and anchors.

Cheers,
Andy

might be better to nip over to georgia instead. better climbing, more developed and smaller to get around.

You could try a winter ascent of Mt Ararat, in the far east of Turkey. It's basically a high altitude walk-up...but the weather, cold and altitude all add up to a decent challange.
