Having had several sessions of ultrasound for back problems which are supposedly muscular issues, I'm left wondering if it actually does a great deal other than lighten your wallet. Seems there is a certain amount of opinion that it is mostly a placebo effect.
Am I right to be a bit sceptical?

Never found it did me any good

I've had it a few times and it didn't seem to do much either.

In reply to woolsack: Old physio at work swore by ultrasound and heat treatment, sod all else.

In reply to woolsack: I never found any benefit from it, however Cup therapy worked for me.

I dont know how it is supposed to work, I doubt high frequency u/s would penetrate very deeply into a low modulus material like a body and low frequency u/s though less attenuated would be worthless.....

Just to buck the trend I reckon it does work for me

The explanation I was given was that it was a bit like alternating cold and heat treatments. By agitating the muscle tissues you prompt them to repair themselves, as well as increasing blood flow. So it's a bit like rubbing the muscles, but goes deeper.
