…. will be good tomorrow? Don't mind if it's a bit cold (but perhaps not in the teeth of the NW breeze); dry rock is more of a priority. Don't mind if sport or trad; perhaps both? Just somewhere to reliably get a decent amount of climbing in. Was just looking at Navigation Quarry.

Any advice from SE sandstone aficionados appreciated

Mountain Ash seems to stay dry.

Guy would be good person to ask, he's been over that way a lot this year.

If you opt for Navigation and it's your first visit, it's worth knowing that the approach is less obvious than the current guide suggests. If you simply stay on the line of the initial old road/track as it becomes a contouring path through vegetation, it eventually peters out leaving you with just the vegetation. You actually have to double back up left on a less obvious path at about the point where the old roadway shrinks to less than roadway size, then turn back right on a higher path which is, thereafter, more obvious. The initial left turn is easy to miss if you're not actually looking for it; we only noticed it on the way back after an abortive hour or two of struggling in dense and painful greenery! A close look via Google Earth is probably a good idea - it shows all this fairly clearly.

In reply to bpmclimb:I would go for The Gap, Mountain Ash or Navigation, although Navigation does seep a bit in places. Sirhowey might be dry.

In reply to bpmclimb: Tipping it down in Aberdare at the moment (22.16). Wouldn't expect a lot to dry off unless there's really good conditions in the morning. Navigation will at least some early sun.

Will try and post in the morning, give update on weather.

In reply to bpmclimb: Most of Trehafod will definitely be dry (even if it is actually raining)

Maybe not the most inspiring place to climb, but there are actually some pretty good routes there as well as guaranteed dry rock

In reply to bpmclimb: Still pretty grim this morning, plenty of heavy showers passing through. Have a good day whatever you choose.

In reply to Mark Morris:

Thanks for the help. We've reconsidered and are going to try Wye Valley instead.
