Langdale at 8am this morning

the strong northerly blowing for the last 24 hrs will cool down the highest norh facing crags pretty quickly
if it snows tomorrow before the frost penetrates it will prevent further cooling
the ground water is not particularly cold yet
currently -2c
In reply to John Kelly:

Thanks for the report, have you seen what the snow cover is like in the E Lakes?

Looks like it'll be a bit yet until the good conditions arrive.

In reply to Northern Mountain Monkey: I was on Place Fell yesterday - belting weather, with great views into the eastern side of the Helvellyn area. Didn't appear to have more than a dusting of snow, and though there was frozen water on Place Fell, streams were still running. Obviously Helvellyn is higher and colder but unless there's a marked change in the next few days I'd guess nothing icy will be in nick for climbing.

In reply to Pursued by a bear:
Thanks, sounds like we're still in the 'conditions building' phase. It should all be good for lowering the ground temps for when a proper freeze happens rather than a 24 hour teaser!
