My sister-in-law is currently in Taiwan for three months. She sent me a facebook message last night to say that outdoor gear is very cheap over there and did I want her to bring me any stuff back. Now her idea of 'outdoor gear' and mine is probably quite different, but I was wondering if anyone on here has any experience of buying technical outdoor clothing in Taiwan? For instance I need a new goretex hardshell for winter. Would it be possible for me to specify a few makes & models of jackets to her, and actually end up saving a load of cash?

Tell you what - can you ask her to visit some real shops, and if any of them look really pucka, speak english, do mail order and are able to ship internationally, get the website addresses and stick em on here for all.

What we can't do from here easily is get a measure of how good a retailer is but it'd be great to have some intel from the ground so we can order with at least some degree of confidence of buying from a clicks and mortar retailer.
