Hi,

I need to replace my old down jacket. I am going to use it for very occasional winter alpine routes and for when it is really cold in the valley.
As I am going to do more ski-touring and summer alpine climbing than winter alpine routes I was thinking that a light-weight down jacket might be more versatile and that for the occasional winter alpine route I could beef it up with a synthetic gilet that I already own. I'm worried though that it wouldn't be beefed up enough. Has anyone tried this option?
