Woke up with shoulder pain

I woke up this morning and reached over to turn off my alarm and had a bad pain in my shoulder. I haven't climbed or done any sport since Sunday and I definitely didn't have anything wrong with my shoulder last night. I can't feel the pain until I move my arm, I can just about lift my arm above my head grimacing.

After a bit of googling I think it's a rotator cuff problem rather than a trapped nerve (I don't think the pain is severe enough to be that).

Has anyone else had anything like this? Any advice?

I have something like this now, but it has been developing since my mountain bike threw me off about 4 months ago. Yours could be a number of things, I'd say ice and rest it and if it hasn't noticeably eased in a few days go to a sports physio.
Best of luck with it.

In reply to Removed User: I know someone who is considering a replacement shoulder for a worse version of your problem. Hers was made worse by physio. Doc first, but perhaps worth looking at shoulderdoc.com website to inform yourself.

I had a rotator cuff injury after a badly broken collarbone (snowboarding). Its worth making sure it gets properly fixed, mine took nearly three years to heal completely.

I would go to your Doctor and make sure they take you seriously. The first time I went the Dr said its fine it will go away, the second time I went in (for something completely different) she noticed I had been in to see about my shoulder previously and put me through for physio straight away.

In reply to JimboWizbo: Just adding a bit more info, the individual was referred to a specialist (Wythenshawe Manchester) and was given a scan that revealed a torn cuff and wear to the joint surfaces. You really need that scan before you start any physio at all, to check the damage, and with a torn cuff, no physio at all I would think until the cuff has been repaired.

Get yourself round to a physiotherapist.

Do not accept it.

Thanks all. Booked a session with a physio today to get seen to quickly. Will most likely try for NHS follow up treatment if any is needed.
