What's hip and happening with music scene for those that have evolved past x-Factor factory music?

I fancy listening to something new.

chvrches (no that's not a typo)

bonobo's boiler room dj sets on sound cloud are great

London grammar - in particular: metal and dust, wasting my young years

satin jackets

m83

metronomy

...these are some of my current favourites.

I was listening to that when I was 20, I'm now in my mid-30s.

In reply to papashango:

Got that one, plus many more of their's.

That make me cool?

In reply to Charlie Noakes:

I am in my late 30s and I listen to Chvrches and London Grammar. Ergo, they are no longer hip
 Fat Bumbly2 14 Dec 2013
In reply to Blue Straggler:

Never mind "hip", are they any good?
 Blue Straggler 14 Dec 2013
In reply to Fat Bumbly2:

Yes.
Chvrches sound a little passé, it's just accessible electro pop, like the more "easy listening" tracks off The Knife's "Deep Cuts" which is from many years ago, but they sound good and that's what matters.

London Grammar seem a classier prospect, unfortunately they seem blighted by Florence and the Machine comparisons which are way off the mark.

A lot of people seem to like Daughter, but I think they are just another The XX, and one The XX is already one too many.

In reply to Blue Straggler:

I reckon the xx are good. Quite like the Pretty Lights album too.

30s are the new 20s perhaps? I'm at university at the moment, and it appears to be culture free zone. But it is Bradford.

In reply to Charlie Noakes:

I'll check them out.

Cheers
OP The Lemming 14 Dec 2013
In reply to Jon Stewart:

Likewise, I'll give them a punt.

I'm fond of hype Machine and indie shuffle for finding new stuff. A lot of blogs will be doing end of year posts soon, good chance to catch up on what you've been missing

I really like pretty lights too, and also Break Science who is on his label or something. And boiler room has lots of good stuff.

Some songs I've added to my playlist in the past year:

This isn't what the 20-somethings are listening to. It's what they should be:
