I was reading some reviews of third party lenses and came across some comments to the effect that Canon dSLR's can't correct for various optical issues (eg. vignetting and CA) during in camera jpeg processing whereas they will for canon lenses. I'm quite surprised by this for a couple of reasons but anyone better informed care to confirm/comment?

I appreciate shooting in RAW and correcting using software would get you back to where you want to be but still interested.

Did a quick Google and the latest Canon dSLRs do have auto-correct in-camera. This can't possibly work for non-Canon lenses, as it would require the camera to have data about the distortion profile of those lenses - and Canon are never going to put that into the firmware!
