Piano. Find me a better one than this

It can be anything but the main ingredient must be that the piano takes centre stage. You can have harpsichords too. If you go synth, then it must obviously sound like a piano to the untrained ear, especially my ear.

Here's a simple one for starters.

If you were to do a 'Blagger's Guide' to classical/contemporary piano, what would you put in your Top 10?

If anything that's worse because it's destroying a great piece rather than destroying a piece of garbage.

Here is the doyen of the organ with the same piece:

although I prefer this by the same composer (not so hackneyed):

Bach Preludes and Fuges
Bach Goldberg Variations
Beethoven 3rd Piano Concerto
Beethven 4th Piano Concerto
Beethoven 5th Piano Concerto ‘Emperor’
Beethoven Appassionata Sonata
Beethoven Piano Sonata Op 109
Beethoven Piano Sonato Op. 110
Beethoven Piano sonata Op 111
Beethoven Diabelli Variations Op 133

I can't think of anything in 2Oth century keyboard music that's quite of this class or advanced level, except some jazz, but I don't find it as moving. Where C20th music really shines is in the area of 'song' in the broadest sense.
In reply to The Lemming:

If piano concertos not allowed, I would choose three pieces by Schubert/Chopin … but that would take me longer to decide.

Who says?

The piano has to be the main ingredient.

As for piano concertos, Rachmaninov (Nr. 2) and Tchaikovsky (Nr. 1 in b minor) get my vote.

That remains surely one of the great piano performances of all time … or should that be lieder?

That is quite hilarious. But it isn't good.

I believe Art Tatum learnt by listening to player piano, which is how he ended up playing like this...

Always liked the style of this fella.
When he gets going it's sometimes difficult to work out how many tunes he is playing at once. Sounds like a recipe for disaster but strangely no.
Enjoy.
