Removing superficial rust from climbing gear

What is the best way to remove superficial rust from climbing gear?

Bit of wd40 and a rag, an old tooth brush for the fiddly bits?
That's off the top of my head. I use my head to think about simple things like this all the time. You should try it!

yep just rub it off with something mild like a washing up scourer/sponge and WD40 to protect it after.
If its any more than very superficial id use very light sandpaper and something like rust-oleum or Kurust, both of which are available in a small applicator which is also handy for many things around the house and car.

Well; I've still got a few of them although they have corroded enough to loose a 't' and simply be 'pitons' now. But they are old........

I believe that an an innovative company called 'bonaitti' has come up with a thing called an 'alloy D' which can apparently compete with the Hiatt 'D' in terms of strength and usability.

I'll believe it when I see it......
