Climbing related of course - all types, from high mountains to European ice to British rock. Will actually be used as a coffee table book so essentially a book of pictures with little more than captions in terms of reading.

Thanks!

This is a gift to me from my girlfriend for Christmas. Very excited. I know I'm getting it as I have seen it in just above every room in the house, subtlety is not her strongest point. I've resisted looking at it but I know how AMAZING the pics are! Great coffee table book

I'll second that - but you can't have my signed copy.

Rock Stars by Heinz Zak is a good one - though a little dated as it was published in '97 so does not feature many of the current crop of superstars

I have just purchased "k2 challenging the sky," a very nice book. Can be found quit cheap.

Rock Athlete of course.

You shall never put the Two holy books on the Floor, or Below Other books on a shelf, or peruse them While some Other media is playing.

You shall not eat while studying them. But yay, Drinking is Acceptable as Long as its Alcoholic, for did not Ron give us the commandment:

"The best Training for Climbing was to Drink five pints of beer and Talk about climbing"

Smoking is ok, because in the days when the holy Scriptures were given to us, most people smoked.

Camming devices, bolts, and chalk are mentioned by the Prophet, may the Grades always be Kind to him. But sending and sissy Mats arent, and are therefore Shunned by the True believers

Classic Rock is a good one for the coffee table... Again, maybe a bit too much text but still over 200 large colour pictures of lots of the classic routes around the UK! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Classic-Rock-Great-British-Climbs/dp/1898573700

Recommended to me by a dear departed friend and alpine guide Chris Dale... Arnaud Petit's "Parois de Legend" two editions "World" and "European". Inspired a trip to Madagascar, the best bolted routes in the world?

Still dreaming of Hand of Fatima in Mali, Lotus Flower Tower, and Nameless Tower aka Trango Tower Karakoram...

Happy days,

This is always out in my house:-

The hardcore climbers wont learn much from it but its easy reading and always worth a comment from visitors

Stone Mountains by Jim Thornburg (Potlicker Press) is almost a coffee table in itself and has the most stunning pics of climbing in North America.

Save your money for this

Will have words too, though, so maybe not entirely meeting your criteria.

(And I ought to declare an interest too).

I bought 'The Art of Ice Climbing' for my boyfriend's birthday this year - and it does indeed sit on our coffee table.
Stunning pictures, but also really informative about how to ice climbing, from stories to practical help.
Definite recommend.

Mention of Galen Rowell brought this to mind:
Mountains of the Middle Kingdom: Exploring the High Peaks of China and Tibet
Amazing photos, still available from independent sellers through Amazon.

Stone Masters, Valley Climbers, the newer version of Classic Rock (just add legs and it is a coffee table) and the original printing of Everest the West Ridge is probably my favourite. Expensive but worth it.
