Southern Highlands

Hi,

Has anybody been out in the Southern Highlands recently as I was wondering what condition the turf is in? Was hopeful for the Cobbler, but it looks a bit warm. Wondered about Coire an Dothaidh, as it should have had some good blasts from the wind. Had also considered the NE coire of Beinn and Dothaidh (particularly Pas de Deux) but figured it wouldn't have had much wind directly on the crag.

Thanks

NMM

Him was in the Coe today. The crags you mentioned rely on frozen turf, there was certainly little to none on the Buachaille today. I've written a little more about conditions here......

We did Menage a Trois yesterday. It was raining not far below the crag and the moss on the boulders below was mush so it looked highly unlikely that it would be in. But, it turned out to be in really good nick - turf frozen, quite a bit of ice and sheltered from the wind. Photo here if you're interested:

In reply to Northern Mountain Monkey: Hoping to head up and do Menage a Trois tomorrow, looks like mixed might be the way to go anyway?

I went for a winter walk on Beinn Tulaichean and Cruach Ardrain today, lots of soft snow until you hit the 800m contour then lovely crampon crunching neve all the way along the windswept ridge between the two Munros. Easterly aspects had lots of drifted snow of the wind born variety.

Thanks for that, plan could be a goer! Even just for a walk up a hill carrying a heavy pack... call it training...
In reply to euanryan:

Not saying its in condition, and it was definitely getting warmer on the walk out, but a thaw/refreeze won't hurt it.

In reply to Northern Mountain Monkey: Went up the Cobbler today to try North Wall Groove. Snow underfoot was deep and wet, started up the route but bailed about 3rd pitch. The temperature was rising faster than we were climbing so the turf was becoming soggy and ice was dropping on us. Not ideal conditions!
Would like to go back and try it when it's in better nick, what little we got done was quite fun!
