Hi there,
we are planning a trip to alps (chamonix area) 2014. Having only ben twice before in June, I am looking for advice.
Has anyone been end Aug-early sept and would you say that was a good/bad time of year to go.
We will be looking at doing Kuffner ridge among other things.
thanks in advance

FYI Some of the cable cars close at the end of Aug beginning of Sept for maintenance.

Quieter, some cable cats shut early Sept, routes can be icier, bigger begshrunds, can have fresh snow. Bit like early July can vary quite a bit.

In my experience early September (even late September) is the best time of year.

UTMB is last weekend of August, so Cham will be heaving, weatherwise it can be anything.. 30+ to snowing..
In reply to nicjbuk:

Was in Cham last early Sept. Did Rochefort Arete and Chere Couloir in top nick, but also lost days to lots of fresh snow. As has been said, can be anything, but crevasses and bergshrunds will be larger than in June.
