Hey all

I'm just wondering whats the score when it comes to shock loading slings.

I see them used all the time as extenders for gear placements or as protection itself. But in the manufactures instructions it always says 'do not climb above'.

I'm just just curious. Can anyone shed some light on this subject.

Thanks Dan

Same principle as shock loading a runner. After all, what is a runner? A sling with a gated crab at either end.

You've got dynamic rope in the system.

Therefore it stretches a bit.

No different to falling onto a QuickDraw

As the video explains, as long as there is some dynamic rope in the system dyneema is OK.
It reminds you to not link yourself directly to a rigid anchor with dyneema, because if you do and then slip off the stance, even a short drop will put massive shock loading onto your body, and could break the sling.
Used as runners dyneema slings are fine because you have the dynamic lead rope to take the shock out of the fall.
