lost my garmin and so having to fall back on the strava app on my iPhone.

Used to work quite happily but now when i try to start recording a ride a window pops up saying:

'background app refresh disabled..
Strava cannot track your ride while background processes are disabled'

what does this mean exactly and how do i enable background app refreshing??

It means that it can run in the background whilst you have your phone locked or using another app for instance. Strava requires it to be turned on.

Settings > general > background app refresh > strava

This should get you sorted.
