I have been putting together a little tool for stacking together my night time pics and making star trail photos. It is nearly ready to pass around and let people play with, but it needs a bit of a polish.

I was just wondering if anyone would be interested in giving it a try.

Features as follows:

- Command line tool.
- Can average multiple dark frames
- Can handle any number of input images.
- Lighten mode for star trails, or averaging mode for low noise.

If there's demand I can have a cleaned up version ready for download by Tuesday or Wednesday evening.

There's a horribly messy hacked up version available now, but the code is a bit embarassing so you need to pm me for that

I have a version uploaded. A very, very basic and ugly web page can be found here:

Feedback welcome.

That would be a "no" then.

I can report that I got a bit carried away, and it has turned into a fully fledged astrophotography image stacker with auto image alignment and things of that ilk.

A test pic from 6 noisy jpegs of orion taken by a mate of mine:

You might get better response if it's on github maybe?

I'm a linux user, just don't do much photography.

That would mean using git though. Ugh!

Posted it here, as I was mainly planning on using it for outdoor mountain pics, but the weather has made it way too easy to get carried away instead of going outside...

It looks really interesting. I've downloaded the source but don't have time to get all the libraries and headers and compile until this evening.

Will let you know how I get on.

Rich.

Hi Richard,

The version with alignment isn't uploaded yet, as I want to run a few more tests. I'm aiming to upload it tonight. The version currently on the site does trails, and unaligned averaging.

Hi Dave,

I'll wait until the new version with alignment is ready for downloading. Well done, nice to see some more useful open source apps.

Rich.
