Does anyone know anything about Schoeller 3XDRY softshell fabric? As far as I can tell, it's quite old, so I don't know how it might compare with more recent fabrics.

I have a Howies jacket made of it that the zip just died on. Used it for cycle commuting every day in the colder seasons. I can tell you that it did seem to dry astonishingly quickly, but it is possible I imagined that.

Thanks - it's a Howies jacket I'm looking at!

Have you found a source of them?! Mine was £40 in the sale down from £100 and something - would def buy another if I saw them at a similar price.

In reply to tony:

It was used in some Mammut pants, amongst other things. I have a pair of Mammut Castor pants that use it and I think it's very good.

It had a thin, almost painted-on membrane type thing on the inside of the material, unlike regular Schoeller. This is not the best for next-2-skin so a mesh lining is often used. But they are great pants - very windproof, stretchy and very water resistant. A tad warm for summer even though they have no insulation, they're just less breathable than regular Schoeller.
In reply to tony:

3XDry is a surface treatment (DWR), not a fabric. The treatment can be applied to many fabrics.

I have some mammut schoeller trousers that were very expensive, they are the least water resistant soft shell garments I own and not nearly as good as the decathalon ones (that were 3 times cheaper)..
