Cook gone for 4, so not a great start.

And Root now gone for 3 and he uses up the only review challenging the call.

Bad review, he should have known whether he nicked it
In reply to Morgan Woods:

Ticking over at a reasonable pace 3-85

BBC reckon the score is about par for the MCG.

Wait......a wicket!

Warner out for 65. Oz 163/1.

In reply to Morgan Woods:

Better news from the women, Aussies are 40-4 chasing 185
 Al Evans 12 Jan 2014
In reply to Chris the Tall:

At stumps Oz are 57/5, its still anybodys game but UK girls are fighting hard.

In reply to Al Evans:

Seems like a bit of an own goal having the first odi at the sametime as the womens test. This could have been a great opportunity to highlight the womens game, but again all the coverage is on the mens game

In reply to balmybaldwin:

A bit of overlap often works quite well - people checking the cricket news will discover the women are playing and it's more interesting and competitive than the men. Plus it's a 5 day test, so you'd expect a clash on one day at least.

What I find odd is that with this points systems for the series, 6 for the test and 2 for the ODIs and 20/20, they put the test on first. If they put it on last it would keep the series alive for longer.
In reply to Morgan Woods:

Lost by six wickets after setting a good total.

Dropping Finch on 8 was the start of the calamity.
 Al Evans 13 Jan 2014
In reply to stroppygob:

Hey, at least the girls won, stuffed Oz by 61 runs. Thats max points in their strange Ashes set up, only one test then I think 3 ODI's and two 20/20 which get less points than the test win.

In reply to Chris the Tall:

The win in Perth earns them six points in the multi-format series, and they only need to win two of the six limited-overs games to keep the trophy.
It also restores some pride in English cricket after the men's team suffered a 5-0 whitewash by Australia in the Ashes and were thrashed in the first one-day international on Sunday.
In reply to Morgan Woods:

Going to see the PM's XI vs England tomorrow.

Though not a major fixture it's a chance for both sides to reward the veteran players, and give the new boys some blooding.

Aussie side are;

• Brett Lee (Captain) NSW
• Jackson Bird TAS
• Ben Cutting QLD
• Peter Handscomb (wk) VIC
• Brad Hodge VIC
• Chris Lynn QLD
• Alister McDermott QLD
• James Muirhead VIC
• Luke Pomersbach QLD
• Clive Rose TAS
• Michael Spaseski ACT
• Shane Devoy (12th man) ACT
Looking forward to watching both Lee and Bird bowling.

England team will be named on the day.

Will be taking my camera, will post links to the images on this forum somewhere (Pub? Culture Bunker? Photography?)

Canberra has borne the brunt of recent government public service cutbacks, it’ll be interesting to see what reception our w@nker of a PM gets.

In reply to stroppygob:

Well at last the men won a game, fairly convincingly too

"England beat a Prime Minister's XI by 172 runs for a first win in Australia for two months, but captain Alastair Cook again failed with the bat.
Cook was caught behind for one off 37-year-old Brett Lee, who trapped Joe Root lbw as England slipped to 149-6.
A seventh-wicket stand of 80 between Jos Buttler (61) and Tim Bresnan (36) helped them reach 264-8 in Canberra.
The Prime Minister's XI then collapsed to 92 all out, with Ravi Bopara claiming four wickets."
In reply to Al Evans:

It was, in fact, a very entertaining game. Cook went first over to a Brett Lee fast'n that I don't think many would have even seen coming.Brett lee wanted that scalp very badly.

I sot off a few hundred snaps will share some soon.

Here's a little taster.

In reply to Al Evans:

I think I could make some money from this shot, due to the rarity value.
