What's the highest grade climbed with out front point crampons?

I think Mallory's Everest attempt (which I am sure was successful) in hobnail boots has got to be given the top marks!

Didn't you use them on the Needle Andy? I remember my cousin getting a book about climbing by I think Jeff Lowe - would have been the late 80s I guess when I was just starting to get interested as a geographically-challenged Worcestershire sixth former. But the book had the Needle listed as the most technically difficult winter route in the world at the time!

Yes on The Needle. I think the book was by Yvon Chouinard. It cost me a lot of marzipan to get him to write that.
