Hi all I need a North face down jacket cleaning. Where's the best place to get them done?

The cheaper alternative would be to do it yourself.

I've washed an 8000m down suit and a PHD Minimus jacket in recent years and once dry, they were just as they were prior to the wash. I was a little nervous at first, particularly with the down suit as they don't come cheap, but follow these instructions carefully and you'll be fine.

I used Nikwax down wash

have you also tried their down proof? Im curious to know how well it works

I washed my ME down jacket in standard tech wash. I just rinsed it like a motherf*cker afterwards in loads of clean water, then hung it out and picked at it for days to stop it clumping. Came up brand new and subsequently I sold it for £50 more than I bought it for even though it'd been heavily used!

I followed the advice on berghaus' website. Jacket took an age to dry in the tumbler on low. But no clumping, which was nice.

No, I've not used that stuff so can't help you there. I have wondered how well it works though.

I used the down cleaner by nikwax. Put some towels in the washer first without any detergent to clean the system. And tumble on low with a couple of tennis balls in. The balls knock the feathers about to stop clumping.

I did a similar thing, and if you put it on a low tumble dry and put 2 tennis balls in the dryer your down doesn't clump together

I've used http://www.classicleanofharrogate.co.uk/ after they were recommended in TGO, as I'm only down the road I popped in with 3 sleeping bags and 2 down jackets. They did a really good job and seem to understand down!

and, if you don't have tennis balls, you can wash in the machine without them on a gentle cycle & slow spin and, as the garment air dries slowly, shake it regularly. I've done this 3 times now with no problems to any of the 3 jackets washed - certainly no persistently clumped down. Takes 3-4 days to dry fully, but our flat is quite cool - no doubt would be faster with an airing cupboard or a warm house.
