Hi all
I am staying in the CIC hut next weekend and was wondering if you guys could recommend some good grade 4 routes or some well protected grade V,s in the CIC area. There's a lot to go at and was wanting to slim down my choices.
Thanks

Anything with three stars in the guidebook, that the guidebook doesn't describe as "run out", that doesn't have anyone else on it, and that isn't buried in powder?

Failing that, two stars ditto.

Green Gully is a reliable choice.

How close to the hut are you thinking of?

Thanks, I don't mind walking upto an hour out of the hut. Yeah I heard green fully was good.

It is good. But it's wise to be flexible; as you note yourself, there are lots of fine routes there. It's worth avoiding one that's already busy, and it's worth being prepared to swing with the conditions on the day.

Green is very good indeed, but it can take more than an hour to reach it from the hut.

I can recommend a IV 4 route called Nasturtium if it is in nick. About 45 mins for a fast party from the CIC. Using 60 metre ropes two abseils will get you back down again, so it's good for a quick hit or short day.

..and there's always North East Butress of course.

The length of the walk in would be the least of your concerns.

The Curtain and Vanishing Gully though they might not be in yet.
