I am wondering if a multimeter causes a short when measuring resistance. Specifically a fluke 187. Would of been useful today when working around alot of live terminals in close proximity

In reply to Cheese Monkey:
It will apply a small voltage and current between the probes to measure the resistance. It does not apply a short circuit between the terminals.

I don't think you should be measuring resistance on live stuff!

In reply to Denzil:

Ideal. Me and a like-minded mate just messed about with two meters. 1V, 0.1mA and 27mohm when measured when reading resistance, 5V and 0.1mA on bell and 5Mohm resistance. More than enough

In reply to DaveN:

No need to measure resistance on live kit as can do it in voltage to find open circuits. Was working on a dead circuit surrounded by live circuits
