I've got 25mm wired Conti Gatorskins on the winter bike and am looking to put the same on my summer one, but figured I might get the folding version and save the weight.

What are the pros and cons of wired vs folding? I found an online clog that suggested Conti uses cheaper compounds in their wired versions - anyone know if this is true?

thanks

Pretty sure it's just a cost thing these days.

Summer bike surely deserves GP4000s's!

Dunno about Contis but I have both wired and folding Vittoria Rubinos on my winter hack and good bike respectively. Apart from the weight saving there's no real difference in performance - though the folding ones are easier to get off and back on in the very rare event of a p*ncture.

I know for mtb tyres, the wired ones are made in china and dont use the black chilli compound, not sure about the road tyres though. Definately go folding if you can

Always gone folding since I replaced my wire, simply due to the ease of taking on/off in comparison. Not that I have had more punctures on one over the other.

And go with what Richard said above or something similar for the summer
