Can anyone recommend a decent bottle cage system that attaches onto the saddle or seat-post. I'm a road cyclist looking to be able to carry more water this summer. I found that carrying only 2 bottles on the frame wasn't enough last summer.

Thanks in advance for helpful comments!

I got a topeak one last summer and stuck on a side load bottle cage from spesh.

Works great

Not quite the answer to your question , but I know someone who has a bottle cage that takes a wider bottle - he uses the one litre disposable bottles you buy in supermarkets - might help

It's this

And this

Having the side loader makes it easy to access and replace the bottle. You can get left or right depending on which hand you favour

Where do you ride and how long are your rides?

Ride 60-80 miles / 5000-7000ft of ascent, regular. Will only be riding in the UK this year.

Just stop at a garage or shop and refill. I've never needed more than 2 x 700ml bottles. I know everyones needs are different but I've ridden 600km Audaxes and never seen anyone with more than 2 bottles.

Just get the team car to follow you?
Or as mentioned include somewhere you can stop to top up if you can.

I ride with one bottle - even on days when it's 35° but I guess I'm lucky here because I'm never more than 25km away from a village fountain.
The thought of putting an extra 3 kilos of weight onto my bike fills me with dread

I use a spec side loader for the long days.
When I'm training I don't want to stop to refill,I have a bottle with a electrolyte mix and two with water.

I' would practise using it somewhere safe to start with, the first few times I dropped the bottle had to waste time finding it and getting back on.once your used to its fine.

Hi Enty, I'm reminded that many moons ago camelbaks (or similar)featured for a year or two on the tour - why do roadies not use these more?

Rule 32 mate.

But on a serious note, riding a bike with extra weight above your centre of gravity held there by straps over your shoulders? Arrrrrrggghhhh - horrible.

I had this problem last year covering 150 miles a day, the answer came in the SIS 1000ml sports bottle, 2 of them and a big drink before setting off worked an absolute treat

I used one of these on a bike with no bottle mounts, works pretty well

This also looks good for the money if you have spare cages
