looking for a budget point and shoot that can handle the knocks and bumps of general climbing. Around the £100 mark

I carry the predecessor to this when climbing.

It does everything you really need a camera to do assuming you're not a "serious" photographer and best of all it has a viewfinder (unlike just about every other digital camera) which means you can actually see what you're taking a picture of and it also saves hugely on battery life by having the screen turned off (optional).

I got one just before xmas, they're £45 at argos , use 2 aa batteries, manual settings or full auto mode and they do a perfect sized tough little case for £5 as well.

another vote for this ...
with a brilliant night setting for capturing starry skies

I'm on my second of these, can't beat the price,
and if it breaks...just buy a new one !!

Wow is that a consensus on UKC! Had quick look at Argos but looks like they have stopped selling the A1300. They have a A2500 for £60

Any one used the A2500 or any other suggestions?

In reply to B Ffitch:

the a1400 is the new version of the a1300, still with optical viewfinder, http://www.dpreview.com/products/canon/compacts/canon_a1400/specifications they're doing them for £45, can't comment on the a2500.
