Me and my main winter climbing partner are both experienced in winter navigation in Scottish winter conditions and both ski to a good standard on piste, making light work of reds and trying our hardest down blacks.

We are extremely keen to merge the two and would love to get out and do some of these easy tours...http://www.ukclimbing.com/articles/page.php?id=6092 However we don't have any ski touring equipment. What would you suggest is the best way/place to hire equipment and 'give it a go' on a short day tour such as some of the first ones mentioned in this article?

Regards
Chris

For hiring kit:

In Aviemore Cairngorm Mountain Sports and Mountain Spirit both hire out the kit

In Braemar, Braemar Mountain Sports hire the kit

If you're travelling from the central belt Tiso Outdoor Experience just off the A9 outside Perth hire touring kit too.

You might want to experiment with getting the skins off/on before ending on on the Cairngorm plateau in a hoolie though.

Fingers crossed you get some decent weather.

These are just down the road from Glenshee ski centre, Hire the gear and have half a day downhill skiing on it, so that you get used to it, then a short half day tour in the afternoon. If you make a weekend of it you could do a longer tour on the sunday.
