Does anyone have advice for the best/safest locations for top-roping at Pass of Ballater in Aberdeenshire? I'm just returning to climbing myself. My kids have experience on indoor walls and are bursting to climb outdoors.

The Western section has plenty of good trees to set up top ropes on

Thanks. I was also wondering about top-roping at the Cambus O'May quarry. I visited the quarry last weekend and it appears pretty advanced. Do you know if it's reasonable/safe for beginner/intermediate climbers to top-rope there?

The middle tier on the Western section of the Pass is perfect for top ropes. Upper tier too but there's not as many easy routes there.

Cambus O May is not so good, although you can get to most of the lower offs from the top (with a bit of care) the easier routes tend to be wet, bouldery and a bit loose. The stuff from 7a up is good though it may need a clean.

Thanks. I'll give it a go as soon as things dry out a bit.
