Access to Shepherds crag and The Bowderstone

Since the B5289 is closed for the next few weeks

does anyone know what the situation is for reaching Shepherd's crag and The Bowderstone?

I was hoping to go to both this weekend, but if "access looks likely to prove a bit of a hassle" means ridiculously long hikes, can anyone recommend good alternatives?

From Penrith go straight past Keswick and follow signs for Portinscale, adds about 15 mins to journey. Easy.
