In reply to Lost_steve:
I've only once been in the general area so can't tell you much from experience, but i'm pretty sure you can do anything from general touristy stuff to hard core adventure climbing (even some bigwall if you're so inclined:
https://plus.google.com/photos/113174798958208215194/albums/571690222963551... ). Also some ice climbing but mostly in the winter
.
So, what's around there:
The Praid Salt mine:

The Bicaz Gorges ("Cheile Bicazului"):
http://www.cheilebicazului-hasmas.ro/en/index.php with everything from trekking to sport climbing to multi-pitch (less bolted, more like pitons + your own rack for backup). Trekking map of the area:

The Ceahlau masiff:

Tha Calimani mountains on your doorstep:

I think there's canyoning and rafting around there but can't put my finger on it.

If climbing would be interesting i'll provide additional links. If you want aditional details (like transport) i'll search for it.
If you're one of those mythical, well off westerners then i guess you could hire somebody from :
http://bucovinaguides.ro/ or ask the
http://www.agmr.ro/ for a recommendation. But then you'll be living in Toplita, a city i had to locate through google maps
, so probably not the case.

Aproximate bus timetables (but asking the locals is probably better):
