Sony Vegas question:

When I import reasonably high res jpgs into a Vegas project (which also contains HD footage) and then render an HD movie (1920x1080 @ 24fps), the resulting image quality for the stills is poor compared to the HD footage. Is there some reason for this? Should I be reducing the resolution of the jpgs to match that of the final movie, say by creating a jpg template in Photoshop and pasting in the portion of the image I want, then importing that image into the timeline? Also, what dpi should the jpgs be at for best IQ in the final render?

Thanks for any tips or suggestions.

Well, I guess I should have googled this first before posting! Adding this for future reference in case it helps anyone else.

Looks like resizing outside Vegas to match the render resolution should fix the problem:

In case I ever, and I mean EVER, sang the praises of Sony Vegas, can I now revise that and just say its a COMPLETE PILE OF CRAP!!!
Fine for editing, but if the programme crashes every time I try and render, it's effectively useless.

Please, someone recommend me an inexpensive alternative.
