Saffers 15/3 chasing 510 against the Aussies

Looks like Smith's last match will end in a big defeat and a series loss.

Maybe England weren't so bad after all ? (no, hold on, just remembered, they were !!)
 Al Evans 04 Mar 2014
In reply to Chris the Tall:

We need to put all that behind us and concentrate on beating the Windies in the ODI series at the moment. Plus learn how not to turn nearly certain victory into defeat!

In reply to Al Evans:

Yep, that last ODI was unnecessarily close.
 GrahamD 04 Mar 2014
In reply to Chris the Tall:

Not sure how Smith's record looks overall but I remember him batting us out of many tests in the past - just impossible to dislodge once he dropped anchor.
In reply to GrahamD:

Remember the opening couple of tests a few years back, taking 20 odd from Jimmmy in an over.

A player I like more now we don't have face him again!

In reply to Chris the Tall:

It's painfully slow, the Saffers are scoring at 1.5 an over. But still only 3 down
 Al Evans 04 Mar 2014
In reply to Graeme Alderson:
Absolutely stunning response from Hassan 5 6's in his first two overs
Sorry I meant Afridi.

In reply to Graeme Alderson:

4 down now

Did you enjoy your day at Wembley ?
In reply to Al Evans:

> Absolutely stunning response from Hassan 5 6's in his first two overs

> Sorry I meant Afridi.

Still none the wiser
 Al Evans 04 Mar 2014
In reply to Chris the Tall:

Sorry I was watching Bangladesh's sad loss to Pakistan!
In reply to Al Evans:

This thread is entitled "Today at the Test" not "Today at the ODI"

Actually it's entitled "Today the Test" but lets not let pedantry distract us from an important distinction

In reply to Chris the Tall:

Chris, you are so funny Are you saying you won't be interested in the ODI against the Windies tomorrow to decide that series?
In reply to Al Evans:

OK Al, I'll allow you to use this thread to discuss the England ODI

Meanwhile in Cape Town it's still in the balance - 201/7 at tea, 33 overs to go
 Al Evans 05 Mar 2014
In reply to Chris the Tall:

Ok it's just started and England are put into bat, currently 2/0 in the first over
 The Potato 05 Mar 2014
In reply to Chris the Tall:

why are there never threads about the tiddlywinks championships or bowls?
bloody cricket or football yak yak yak
In reply to ow arm:

Why don't you start a thread on tiddlywinks or bowls ?
 Al Evans 05 Mar 2014
In reply to Chris the Tall:

37/1 now, Lumb goes on 20, 37/1 now, a not bad start, then another one next ball, Stokes goes first ball, 37/2.
In reply to Chris the Tall:

Saffers 231/7 25.4 overs to go

England 37/2 off 7
In reply to Al Evans:

Anyone know the rule regarding asking for the extra 30 minutes. Is it just the captain has to ask or are there any criteria eg number of wickets left
In reply to Al Evans:

Duminy gone. 246/8 now with 19.5 overs left. Plus presumably an extra 30 minutes.
In reply to Al Evans:

Rain stopped play in the ODI
In reply to Graeme Alderson:

> Duminy gone. 246/8 now with 19.5 overs left. Plus presumably an extra 30 minutes.

Extra 30 minutes doesn't apply on the final day does it ?

There is a rule in county champs about 20 overs in last hour of play, and of course there is the time after which you can agree a draw, but I think here its a min of 90 overs, and they had 33 left at tea

In reply to Chris the Tall:

Looks like Philander's gone after a review - down to Steyn and Morkel
In reply to Chris the Tall:

One hour or a minimum of 15 overs left according to cric.info
In reply to Graeme Alderson:

And Philander survived - 13 overs to go now
In reply to Chris the Tall:

9 overs to go

England on 97/2 off 19 overs
In reply to Chris the Tall:
Getting a bit tense in SA, time for the Saffers to start bringing on drinks, gloves, sheep whatever just like we did in Cardiff in '09.

Oh good we're collapsing again in the Windies.

In reply to Pepper:

Steyn gone. 1 wicket left and 29 balls to survive
In reply to Pepper:

All over
In reply to Graeme Alderson:

Game, golden. Damn it. They needed Monty playing for them
In reply to Graeme Alderson:

Blimey, that was quick. I turn away for 5 minutes to do some work and miss it !
In reply to Chris the Tall:

Harris, gaffer tape knees and all put in one last effort. Not a fan of the Aussies but I'd buy Harris a pint, the man just keeps going.
In reply to Pepper:

> Oh good we're collapsing again in the Windies.

Dare I say it, but it seems to be going rather well - maiden ODI ton up for Root, and Buttler not far of his top score as well

Should be 320+ (he says, putting a curse on them!)
In reply to Chris the Tall:

oh well 303, and Buttler misses out on a maiden ton

should be enough, you'd think ?
 Al Evans 05 Mar 2014
In reply to Chris the Tall:

They are 43/3 but scoring at the required rate?
 Al Evans 05 Mar 2014
In reply to Chris the Tall:

43/4 now and run rate flagging
In reply to Al Evans:

Ramdin trying to make it interesting but 50 required off 25 balls with just 2 wickets left, not even England could throw this away.......
