Can anyone confirm what happens to a married mans State pension on his death?

I'm assuming it just stops but have a niggly feeling that the wife might get it or some of it/

Its too early to go into money matters with recently bereaved relative but need to know so arrangements can be made.
Many thanks

Hmmmm, I'm assuming it just stops, why wouldn't it? I assume that my company pension will just stop too, there was a death in service provision for dependents, but once you take your pension and retire that's it.
It may be that if you are a pensionable couple on the state scheme it will change, but once both pensioners die I'm sure that's it.

Might be worth checking that. The USS scheme (which admittedly is a very attractive one) says:

"On your death, after retirement, there would continue to be a pension for your surviving husband/wife/civil partner/dependant partner until they die. This would be equivalent to half the standard pension when you retired, plus pension increases to the date of your death. "

The following explains the situation:

His stops, and the spouse will receive a slightly higher widow's pension.
