Hi
I'm thinking of heading to glen Coe tomorrow to do curved ridge.
Any one been there or there abouts recently.
Not checked the weather yet but just wanted some route info.

Is it in?
More importantly tho how does the tourist route look as a means if decent?

Any info will be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Neil

In reply to neil9216:

I'd avoid the descent through Coire na Tulaich like the plague.
You can descend the ridge running north from spot height 902m, this avoids the coire and thus almost all avalanche/cornice danger. There are a few minor buttresses which can be turned on the left.
You can follow this til you're past the mouth of the coire.
OP neil9216 15 Mar 2014
In reply to Cameron94:

Cheers for that mate. I kinda thought that the usual means of decent would be well dodgy.
You any idea what curved ridge itself is like condition wise?

In reply to neil9216:

Friends were on it this week just gone, Tuesday I think and the said it was snow plodding between steps of rock climbing with hands.
With the ongoing thaw I can't see it being the best winter nick but it could be quite "alpine" going from snow to rock.

Although I don't know the damage the ongoing thaw has had on it since then.
 Jamie B 15 Mar 2014
In reply to neil9216:

Plenty of snow on it last Tuesday, but some bare rock steps too.
You don't fancy correcting the title of the thread do you? It grates a little.
 Cameron94 15 Mar 2014
In reply to Jamie B:

It really should read; "Anyone been near the bookle these couple of days" eh Jamie?
OP neil9216 15 Mar 2014
In reply to Jamie B:

Are you serious mate.
You need to get out more ya bellend.

It pretty obvious that I made a mistake. But so what.
You understood what I was asking.

Yes, he did understand what you were asking and was kind enough to reply. He made a simple, probably tongue in cheek request for you to change the title yet you resort to insults on a public forum.
I think Jamie gets out a fair bit actually, especially in the locale you've asked for advice on. Have a nice day tomorrow.

 Jamie B 15 Mar 2014
In reply to Nigel Thomson:
Thanks. It's not hard to look up the correct spelling of things, and it helps to keep our indigenous language and culture alive. To me this is important, and I don't think it makes me a bell-end. Pedantic perhaps, but better that than offensive.

No, not really credible, that

You sir, are a prat. Don't come on here asking for advice then flame those who give it. You'll find your questions unanswered in the future. There's a thing called respect on this forum, and you're not getting it

In respect of info, here it is Thursday: http://alanhalewood.blogspot.co.uk/2014/03/curved-ridge-with-plas-y-brenin....

In respect if the politely worded request: abusive language rarely gets you far in terms of respect in the long run. If you feel aggrieved by Jamie's post fair enough but there are better ways to express it.

To be honest, I thought the thread title asked ' any been near the bookies...'
To that I would have just answered 'yes', and bragged about my winnings!

Thanks for changing the title. Wasn't hard, was it?

In reply to Jamie B:

I was actually thinking that I may have been a been a wee bit harsh last night. However you have just confirmed that you are a bell end.

To clarify. I made the original post using my I phone and the stupid thing auto corrected the title.
Up until you so sarcastically pointed out I had made a mistake I was completely unaware.

I really appreciate all the info that was posted even from you Jamie.
However what I don't appreciate is the sarcasistic condescending way you pointed out my mistake.
You could have said it a number of different ways. Take skol.s post for example. Quite clearly a bit of fun. I'm the first to admit that the title made me look like a tw*t and I have a good sense of humour and would have took any jokes on the chin.

Your sarcasm meter is clearly on a very sensitive setting.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the wording of Jamie's request. - "You don't fancy correcting the title of the thread do you? It grates a little."

I say suck it up and offer a proper apology.
 Jamie B 16 Mar 2014
In reply to neil9216:

What an unusual auto-correct - changing it to another word not in any dictionary. Mine doesn't do that.
 aln 16 Mar 2014
In reply to neil9216:

Would this be a good time to point out that you twice used 'decent' when it should have been descent'?

Maybe, but given that he'd already been called a bellend without any good reason at all, it was still admirably restrained.
In reply to neil9216:
'I'm the first to admit that the title made me look like a tw*t'

no, its not the title that's doing that.

With over thirteen hundred views and only twenty something replies it's not only Jamie that is showing some admirable restraint!

In reply to neil9216:

Should the title not read "Anyone been near the Buachaille these last few days?"

Even with the latest change it is still grammatically incorrect and grates a bit.
 MadProfessor 17 Mar 2014
In reply to neil9216:
Strictly speaking it should read. 'HAS anyone.....etc etc', then it might grate less

Would it not stand to reason if I went to the effort of changing the word bookle to Buachaille I would have fixed the tittle also.

If there's one thing I can't abide it's a grammatically indeterminate insult. What do they teach them at schools these days?

Just remember that if you are descending from "The Great Shepherd" that Coire na Tulaich is an avalanche trap however you spell it in english, gaelic or anything else. One of my favorite mountains

In reply to neil9216:

Apologies for straying off topic...

But I was on the Buachaille yesterday, on North Buttress, along with loads of other teams wisely avoiding the gullies and open snow slopes. Amazing views in the sun and a great route, but it wasn't in wonderful condition. Freezing level was much higher than expected and there was loads of unhelpful powder in places.

To reinforce the point about gullies and snow slopes, descending towards the ridge to the west of Coire na Tulaich, we saw that a large fresh wet snow avalanche had triggered on a south-easterly aspect between point 902 and Stob na Doire, going a long way down into Coire Cloiche Finne.

Danny.
